Award winning, township-based South African company, Lemok Group, is launching its new Libra brand, with its flagship smartphone. The Libra will compete with a wide range of budget entry-level phones like Huawei’s Y5 lite, Vivo’s Y11 and the Mara Z.
“I have always been fascinated with how South Africa and pretty most African countries have very little brands that we own. From cars all the way to electronics. We seem to be the haven for international brands yet we hardly produce anything that the international market can
use. The Libra smartphone is my contribution to this epidemic; as the first smartphone brand launched by a South African township-based company & entrepreneur, this brand is challenging the narrative of what African entrepreneurs can do.” says Lebogang Mokubela, CEO of Lemok Group.
Mokubela, who previously won the Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the Standard Bank Tshwane Business Awards, adds that the Libra by Lemok smarphone boasts an exclusive electric blue colour with an impressive 128GB of onboard memory, a 6-inch display, 2.6GHz Deco Core CPU, DUAL Sim, 4000mAh battery and a 10MP rear camera paired with a 8MP front-facing camera.
Having worked on marketing strategies for brands such as 8.ta, Lenovo and New Balance South Africa, Lebogang Mokubela saw the need to apply what he had learned within his own community and started Lemok Group; a township based Investment Company, in September 2015.
South Africa seems to be winning in many markets and we’re proud that a black South Africa from a township is adding another feather to the African hat of development. Mokubela is taking others with him as he climbs the ladder of success, with the business focus proudly on ‘Township Marketing’ Lebogang offers unique strategies for companies wishing to enter the growing sector, and an in-depth knowledge of the audiences and nuances within this community.
We want to celebrate greatness and Lebogang’s success in launching South Africa’s first township based smartphone is worth magnifying so the world can hear.
For every pre-order on lunch day, customers will get a free Libra Smart watch. Pre-orders of the phone are expected to commence 18 December 2019 and expected to retail at R2 999 from its e-commerce website – www.librabylemok.co.za.
